Take a look at early LEGO Editions Formula 1 helmet designs

A recent Behind the Build video has given a sneak peek at some of the concept work that went into the creation of two new LEGO Editions Formula 1 helmets.

Two more LEGO Editions Formula 1 builds were revealed earlier this month, in the colourful shape of 43017 McLaren Mastercard F1 Team Oscar Piastri Helmet and 43023 McLaren Mastercard F1 Team Lando Norris Helmet. Those striking designs have now been featured in a fun new LEGO Behind the Build video, highlighting all of the intensive work that went into the racing builds.

Although the majority of the promotional footage is animated in a traditional LEGO style, there are snippets of real designers at work on the latest LEGO Editions releases, including quick looks at initial concepts and sketches.

Both Formula 1 drivers had an active hand in co-designing the LEGO Editions sets, with 43017 McLaren Mastercard F1 Team Oscar Piastri Helmet and 43023 McLaren Mastercard F1 Team Lando Norris Helmet later recreated as real-world headgear for the pair to wear at the recent Monaco Grand Prix.

The creative process involved months of brainstorming, designing and refining, with each LEGO Editions Formula 1 helmet featuring half trademark elements that reflect Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris' personalities, while the other half celebrates the McLaren team’s 1,000th race livery.

43017 McLaren Mastercard F1 Team Oscar Piastri Helmet and 43023 McLaren Mastercard F1 Team Lando Norris Helmet are both available to purchase right now, with the LEGO Editions sets each priced at £79.99 / $89.99 / €89.99.
